Meet Benny! He is 2-3 yrs old. He is VERY SMART and needs a capable handler. Benny knows how to HEEL, SIT, STAY, DOWN, GIVE PAW, DROP IT, WAIT, LEAVE IT. He will excel in any kind of training and would really like a job to do, whether it's carrying a back pack or pulling a cart or a sport like skijoring. He loves to play fetch and can get a little obsessed with his ball at times. Benny loves people - probably as much as he loves his ball! He takes treats very nicely. Ben has had a rough start in life. He was found, abandoned, in an apt building in NYC with a heavy chain attached to his collar. He was rescued from the shelter kill list by a rescue group, and he was placed into foster care. He didn't do well with the small dogs in the family and was moved to a boarding kennel, where he ingested a tennis ball. Ben then underwent emergency surgery to remove the intestinal blockage caused by the ball. He has been in a variety of foster homes that were simply not suitable, and in a variety of kennel situations. His mental health began to deteriorate as well as his behavior. Ben was moved here to the country for some much needed rest & relaxation. He was ill and extremely underweight when he arrived but is now strong, healthy, and recovering nicely.
